One of the most anticipated cars to be launched in India this year is the five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny. It is reported that the sale of this lifestyle SUV will start from the last week of May. The Jimny will be exported to the domestic market as well as abroad from Maruti Suzuki's factory located in Gurugram. Maruti has opened bookings since its display at the Auto Expo event held in January. So far, more than 35 thousand advance bookings have been deposited in Jimny's account. It will be sold through Maruti Suzuki's premium dealership network Nexa. Let's take a look at the details of this Maruti Suzuki car.
Engine and gear box
Four-cylinder 1.5-liter K15B engine provides driving power to this SUV with four-wheel drive technology. With Ideal Start/Stop technology, this engine can produce a maximum power of 103 PS at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 134 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It gets a five-speed manual gear as well as a four-speed torque convertible automatic transmission system.
Off-road capability
It uses Suzuki's own All Grip Pro 4×4 technology with a low range gear box. 2WD High, 4WD Low and 4WD High- these three types of riding modes can be seen through this gear box. According to the information published by the manufacturer, this five-door Jimny has an approach angle of 36⁰, a departure angle of 50⁰ and a break over angle of 24°. Built on a ladder-on-frame chassis, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has a ground clearance of 210 mm.
Suspension will be handled by three link axles. An electronic traction control system is available to prevent wheel slip even when the brakes are applied. It uses 195/80 section tires with 15-inch alloy wheels suitable for off-road use.
Variants and Features
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be available in two variants, the Jetta and the Alfa. The base version gets 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Smart Play Pro, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four speaker system, color MID display, reverse camera, power windows, seat belt warning, electronic stability program, six airbags, Isofix child seats. Anchors, electronically adjustable mirrors and steel wheels are all notable features.
On the other hand, its premium alpha version offers several advanced and interesting features. The touch screen associated with the infotainment system in it is slightly larger - nine inches. It also gets Smart Play Pro Plus, Arcamis sound system, climate control, cruise control, keyless start, headlamp washers, LED headlamps, foglamps, auto headlamps, body color handles and alloy wheels.
Paint scheme and dimensions
Maruti Suzuki Jimny is available in a total of seven colors. Five of these are single tones – Nexa Blue, Sizzling Red, Bluish Black, Pearl Arctic White and Granite Grey. There are also two dual tone colors – Sizzling Red+Bluish Black and Kinetic Yellow+Bluish Black. This Maruti SUV measures 3985mm, 1645mm and 1720mm in length, width and height respectively. Wheel base length is 2590 mm.
Estimated price
The price of the five-door version of the Jimny, the Jetta variant, is around Tk 10 lakh, but the top model will cost around Tk 13 lakh. That is, it can be quite cheaper than the Thar in the case of the top model. The price will be officially announced at the end of next May.
